OTG Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

Explore the rich tapestry of our workforce through our Crewmember Spotlights, where we celebrate the unique stories and experiences of OTG’s diverse team members. In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, we are proud to highlight the contributions and achievements of our Hispanic and Latino Crewmembers, who play an essential role in enriching our dynamic community. Hispanic Heritage Month, observed from September 15 to October 15, commemorates the histories, cultures, and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. This period was chosen to coincide with the independence anniversaries of several Latin American countries. At OTG, we are committed to cultivating a workplace where everyone is acknowledged, valued, and appreciated, fostering a culture of inclusivity and belonging. "As a person of Dominican descent, witnessing the celebration of Latino cultures in the United States fills me with pride and inspiration. My mother, who immigrated here for a better life, has been my greatest influence. I appreciate OTG's support in celebrating this month, as it acknowledges and educates others about our journey, language, and heritage. Understanding each other fosters greater appreciation among us all.”

Hispanic Heritage Month holds special significance for me as a first-generation American of Cuban descent. My father fled communism at the age of 27 with nothing but the clothes on his back, for freedom and pursuit of the American Dream. Because of his bravery and hard work, I am proud to have been the first in my family to grow-up here in the US and the first with the opportunity to attend and graduate from college. This month not only celebrates our rich culture and history but showcases our achievements and resilience, honoring the various journeys that brought us here.

What’s most important to me about Hispanic culture is the deep value placed on family and community. In Honduras, we have strong family bonds, and this sense of togetherness includes immediate family, extended family, and friends. This support system has always been a big part of my life, giving me love and encouragement no matter where I am. Celebrating Hispanic culture means honoring these roots and values while embracing the new experiences, growth, and opportunities I’ve found in Canada.
